The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that in the third quarter of 2023, there were a total of 221,769,883 active voice subscribers, indicating a 4.51% increase compared to the 212,201,578 reported in Q3 2022. The information is part of the NBS Telecoms Data: Active Voice and Internet per State, Porting, and Tariff Information report for Q3 2023, released in Abuja on Friday.
The report also highlighted a quarter-on-quarter growth of 0.76%, with active voice subscribers rising from 220,086,951 in Q2 2023. Furthermore, it revealed that there were 160,171,125 active internet subscribers in Q3 2023, reflecting a 4.83% increase from Q3 2022. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, active internet subscribers grew by 0.42% from the 159,498,826 recorded in Q2 2023.
Lagos State led in active voice subscribers with 27,043,333, followed by Ogun with 13,136,247, and Kano with 12,192,122. Conversely, Bayelsa recorded the lowest number of voice subscribers at 1,558,509. In terms of active internet subscribers, Lagos State again topped the list with 19,188,745, followed by Ogun with 9,538,622, and Kano with 8,712,782. Bayelsa had the fewest internet subscribers with 1,195,580.
The NBS report also highlighted that MTN had the highest share of subscriptions in Q3 2023.
