The Lagos State Government has initiated a comprehensive inspection of sagging and dropped cables in the Lekki area to enhance public safety and maintain infrastructure integrity. This three-day enforcement operation, running from April 23 to 25, is part of a broader effort by the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) to ensure compliance in various parts of the state.
LASIMRA announced the enforcement initiative following a similar campaign conducted in the Agege area, where unauthorized cables were uncovered during inspections earlier this month. Prompted by these findings, LASIMRA has shifted its focus to the Lekki Area, targeting specific zones such as Lekki 1 and 2, Ikate, and surrounding environs.
In a public notice issued to telecoms operators, LASIMRA emphasized the critical importance of this enforcement effort in safeguarding residents and upholding infrastructure standards. The agency stressed the need for regulatory compliance to prevent potential hazards posed by sagging and dropped cables.
Earlier in the month, LASIMRA reiterated the necessity for obtaining approval before making any alterations to government infrastructure. This proactive measure ensures that projects adhere to regulatory requirements, promoting the safety and sustainability of public infrastructure.
Established under Lagos State Government Law No.13 in July 2004, LASIMRA is mandated to regulate utility infrastructure across the state. Its jurisdiction spans various sectors, including oil and gas, fiber optics, telecom masts and towers, water cables, and electricity companies, both overground and underground, throughout Lagos.
The ongoing inspection underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing public safety and ensuring the reliability of infrastructure networks across Lagos State. Residents are urged to cooperate with LASIMRA officials during the enforcement period to facilitate a smooth and effective operation.
