At its annual Connect event, Meta showcased several AI-powered updates across its virtual and mixed reality products. The key announcement was Meta’s new Orion augmented reality (AR) glasses, which use cutting-edge holographic displays and hands-free AI communication. Orion, previously known as Project Nazare, promises a more immersive AR experience, allowing users to interact with holograms projected into their real-world environment.
Meta also revealed upgrades to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, which now offer voice interaction with objects and real-time translation capabilities.
Meta AI, the company’s generative AI model, is receiving an overhaul, adding multi-modal video features and the ability to interact across Meta’s platforms. Users can ask Meta AI questions, edit photos, and even customize their own AI agents through an AI studio.
In virtual reality, Meta launched the Meta Quest 3S headset, available for pre-order at $299 and set to ship on October 15. It will replace the Quest 2 and Pro models by the end of the year. Meta also announced new updates to its Horizon virtual platform, enhancing the social and gaming experience with new photorealistic spaces, co-watching features, and collaborations with third-party developers.
