Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining the stability of the Naira during the inauguration of the National Design and Innovation Competition, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
The event, organized by the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN), aimed to spur entrepreneurship and creative ventures among the youth. Shettima’s assurance comes amidst recent fluctuations in the exchange rate, with the Naira appreciating gradually following government monetary policies.
During his address, Shettima emphasized the government’s dedication to implementing policies and programs aimed at stabilizing the Naira, which has seen fluctuations over recent months. He also assured attendees that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to addressing pressing issues concerning food security, nutrition, and insecurity.
Highlighting the pivotal role of youth in driving innovation and creativity, Shettima pledged continued government support for their aspirations. He further announced plans to integrate young innovators into the government’s Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (i-DICE) program, valued at $617.7 million.
Earlier in the event, Titi Ogufere, leader of the IDAN delegation and founder of the association, unveiled plans to train one million youths in furniture production and industrial design. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, will encompass design competitions and workshops where participants can showcase their prototypes.
Ogufere emphasized that the training program aims to empower youth and foster innovation in Nigeria’s creative industry. Notable Nigerian manufacturers such as AFP by Julius Berger, TRT Aredo, Wood Styles, IO Furniture, and Nettetal will play a key role in supporting the initiative.
As the nation grapples with economic challenges, initiatives like the National Design and Innovation Competition serve as catalysts for driving growth and empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators.
