Hundreds of residents from Oke-Egan Community in Eleko Lagos stormed the State House of Assembly complex. The protestors, numbering over 500, say their homes were demolished by unidentified agents without warning.
They displayed banners and placards expressing their anger and homelessness. Some messages pleaded for help from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu.
Taiwo Alalade, a spokesperson for the group, recounted the ordeal of her family left homeless after the demolition. She claims they have legal documentation for the property and pleads for assistance from the government.
Another resident, Pastor Abiodun Ajayi, narrated the demolition of his house at dawn, leaving them with no time to salvage belongings. He said they had previously communicated with the authorities through letters and with the help of a local Oba, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, commended the protestors for their peaceful conduct. He assured them their concerns would be presented to the Speaker and that steps would be taken to find a solution.
