Benneth Igweh, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has endorsed SLTV, a Nigerian pay television company, in a bid to promote local innovation and offer affordable entertainment choices.
During a courtesy visit by a delegation from Metrodigital Limited, the operators of SLTV, Commissioner Igweh announced his support for the installation of SLTV decoders and satellite dishes across all police divisions under the FCT Command. This endorsement aims to encourage patronage of the indigenous brand among law enforcement officers.
The decision comes as a commendable step towards breaking the monopoly held by existing satellite TV providers and offering Nigerians more accessible alternatives. Igweh emphasized the importance of ensuring that officers have access to up-to-date news and information, making the installation of SLTV equipment in police divisions a strategic move.
“We must appreciate and support our own that has come to ensure that Nigerians enjoy good and affordable pay TV service,” Commissioner Igweh remarked during the visit. He also expressed his desire for SLTV to introduce a Pay As You Go system, aligning with international standards.
Princess Nikky Onyeri, the Chief Operating Officer of Camroll Quest Ltd, leading the delegation, explained SLTV’s offerings, which include over 50 HD channels, including 10 sports channels. She highlighted SLTV’s commitment to providing quality entertainment at affordable prices, with subscription plans ranging from N2,500 to N5,000 per month.
The launch of SLTV earlier this year was part of the government’s initiative to offer Nigerians alternatives and enhance competition in the satellite pay television sector. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, commended SLTV for its patriotic initiative and reiterated the government’s full support for the venture.
SLTV has quickly gained popularity among Nigerian subscribers, thanks to its relatively low subscription packages. The endorsement by Commissioner Igweh further solidifies SLTV’s position as a viable option in the Nigerian pay TV market, signaling a promising future for indigenous entertainment providers.
