Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed a willingness to collaborate with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to ensure seamless business registration in the state.
Sanwo-Olu made this known during a courtesy call by the Registrar-General of the CAC on Thursday at Alausa, Ikeja. The governor was represented by his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.
Sanwo-Olu urged the Registrar-General of CAC, Hussaini Magaji, to find ways to simplify the registration process, particularly for startups and small businesses that might struggle with registration fees. He suggested that the CAC could adopt a model similar to the state tax card, which provides a database for the government to manage infrastructure needs without burdening businesses.
The governor emphasized the need for more sensitization to correct the perception that registering with the CAC is difficult.
In response, the Registrar-General of CAC stated that the commission was enforcing compliance in the fintech industry and that Point of Sale owners could register with CAC from anywhere in the country. He expressed the commission’s willingness to collaborate with the state government, allowing business owners to register with CAC through the state government at a consensual rate, as part of their support for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
