The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has proudly announced Nigeria’s official entry into the World Skills International (WSI). This milestone was confirmed through a letter dated August 20, 2024, from David Hoey, CEO of the WSI Secretariat in Amsterdam, marking a significant achievement for the nation.
According to Fatima Abubakar, Head of the NBTE Media Unit, the membership comes with a certificate signed by both the WSI President and CEO, affirming Nigeria’s place in the global body. This membership will allow Nigeria to participate in World Skills Competitions and access valuable training, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities aimed at enhancing skill development.
NBTE’s Executive Secretary, Idris Bugaje, expressed his appreciation for the support received from the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, and commended the efforts of the Nigerian team led by Yemisi Akinrinade. Bugaje also urged both government and private sectors to back World Skills Nigeria’s programs, encouraging youth to prioritize skill development as a career path, thereby improving the nation’s prospects on the global stage.
