The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reinforced the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring an efficient and sustainable power supply, essential for driving Nigeria’s economic growth and social development.
Speaking on Wednesday during the official presentation of the zero draft of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan (NIEP-SIP) in Abuja, Adelabu highlighted this event as a crucial step toward building a robust, sustainable, and inclusive power sector.
Adelabu emphasized the collaborative and thorough efforts that led to this milestone, driven by a collective resolve to address the pressing challenges within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). He cited significant developments, including the passage of the Electricity Act 2023 by President Bola Tinubu, strategic engagements at the Ministerial Retreat, and the 8th Africa Energy Marketplace (AEMP).
The minister described the NIEP-SIP as a comprehensive document developed through extensive consultations with industry experts, key stakeholders, and development partners. The policy covers interventions across the entire value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and off-grid segments.
Adelabu noted that the policy aims to improve sector liquidity, create a conducive environment for investment, integrate renewable energy sources, enhance grid reliability, ensure equitable access to electricity, boost local content and capacity, and promote gender mainstreaming.
He assured that the policy’s implementation would be transparent, accountable, and inclusive, urging stakeholders to remain engaged and supportive of the initiative.
Adelabu also praised the dedication and hard work of those involved in developing the policy, acknowledging their role in laying a strong foundation for Nigeria’s energy future.
