The Lagos state government has formalized a partnership with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to develop the Lekki-Epe link bridge. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, with President Bola Tinubu present during his official visit to China.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the MoU includes awarding the EPC contract to CCECC, and noted that feasibility and design studies for the bridge project have been completed. He stated that the focus on improving key road networks is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the commuting experience, which will also contribute to economic growth.
In addition to the bridge project, Lagos state has signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across its tertiary institutions. The solar initiative will cover Lagos State University and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine. The solar systems are expected to generate around 50 MW of cleaner, more affordable electricity, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustainable energy and economic development.
