At a retreat hosted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Anite, underscored the significant role Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play in driving Nigeria’s economic growth. Represented by Amb. Nura Rimi, Anite stressed that MSMEs are crucial for job creation, poverty reduction, and GDP growth, despite challenges like limited access to finance and skills development.
Anite reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting MSMEs, which contribute 43.6% to Nigeria’s GDP and employ over 61 million people. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by Ubokutom Nyah, also called for improved infrastructure and market access to help MSMEs grow.
SMEDAN Director-General Charles Odii introduced the “GROW Nigerian” strategy, focused on boosting local production and increasing export revenues.
