The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos has launched its 2024 “Ember” Months campaign, with a strong emphasis on passenger empowerment to combat reckless driving. The campaign, themed “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Crashes Kill More Passengers than Drivers,” aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities during the festive season.
The FRSC’s revised public education strategy involves a range of initiatives, including town hall meetings, motorcades, and advocacy at transit and rest areas. These efforts are aimed at engaging passengers and empowering them to assert their rights to safe travel. The agency emphasizes the importance of passenger vigilance, urging them to report reckless driving and demand adherence to safety regulations.
The Corps Marshal has instructed all FRSC commands nationwide to actively engage commuters, promoting the use of seatbelts and discouraging distractions. By empowering passengers to take an active role in road safety, the FRSC hopes to create a safer motoring environment.
Guinness Nigeria PLC, a partner in the campaign, supports the initiative to address the issue of drunk driving. The company emphasizes the importance of responsible alcohol consumption and urges motorists to avoid driving under the influence.
As the “Ember” Months approach, the FRSC is intensifying its efforts to ensure road safety and prevent accidents. By focusing on passenger empowerment and promoting responsible driving behavior, the agency aims to make Nigerian roads safer for all.
