The Federal Government has set a 2027 deadline to fully digitise the headquarters of all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, announced this during a stakeholders’ retreat on the “774 Connectivity Project” held in Abuja.
The initiative, which is being executed in collaboration with other agencies under the ministry, aims to enhance access to digital public infrastructure, especially in remote and underserved regions. According to Tijani, the project will provide reliable internet access, empowering local businesses and improving public services such as healthcare, education, and social welfare.
“By 2027, we aim to have fully digitised all the local governments,” he said, explaining that the blueprint for achieving this goal has already been laid out.
Oluyomi Arowosafe, Executive Secretary of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), added that the project would ensure wider internet coverage in rural areas, supporting social equity and inclusiveness. Kogi State has already begun benefitting from the project, with several LGAs in the state connected to digital infrastructure, according to the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo.
