The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), in collaboration with Small Business Training Solutions (SBTS), has unveiled a $200 million initiative to train Nigerian youth in Business Processing Operations (BPOs) and boost the country’s role in global outsourcing.
Announced at the Stakeholders Engagement on Partnership for Capacity Building and Job Opportunities in Abuja, the programme aims to generate 100,000 direct jobs through specialised digital training.
SBTS CEO Evelyn Lewis emphasised that the partnership is focused on economic empowerment, digital inclusion, and Africa’s global competitiveness.
“Our goal is to create 100,000 new digital jobs in Africa over the next five years,” she said, adding that the training will align with employer needs to ensure job readiness.
DBI President/CEO David Daser highlighted that the initiative supports DBI’s mandate to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide. Training will cover areas like entrepreneurship, digital marketing, software development, cybersecurity, and business management.
Beyond skills acquisition, the programme will offer mentorship, funding access, and business incubation to help graduates transition seamlessly into employment or entrepreneurship.
SBTS partner Aisha Lewis noted that with 170 million digital tech jobs projected globally by 2030, African youth must be equipped to compete in the evolving digital economy.
DBI’s Head of Public Affairs, Akin Ogunlade, called on stakeholders to support digital training as a key driver of national development.
