The President of the Nigerian Mining and Geo-sciences Society (NMGS), Akinade Olatunji, has commended Nigerian students for embracing linguistic and cultural diversity as a source of strength.
Speaking at a variety night in Abuja during a presentation by NMGS student chapter presidents from various institutions, Olatunji praised them for rising above societal pressures that often foster ethnic and religious stereotypes.
The event was part of the 60th Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE), which gathered representatives from over 30 institutions.
Describing the students as the future of Nigeria, Olatunji highlighted their confidence in their unique identities within a multilingual and multi-religious society.
“What adults call abuse, these ones have owned. That is the strength of this country,” he stated, encouraging them to sustain the spirit of unity in diversity.
The conference, held from February 16 to 21, also featured an Inter-varsity Geoscience Challenge Bowl. With the theme “Transformation of the Mineral, Energy, Water, and Concentration Sectors through Innovations,” the event aimed to promote advancements in these critical sectors.
