The Lagos State Government has called on Lagos Island residents to support urban regeneration efforts as it prepares to demolish illegal structures for road rehabilitation and 15 infrastructure projects.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday, Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Infrastructure, reiterated the administration’s commitment to urban renewal, road rehabilitation, and improved drainage systems.
Key roads scheduled for reconstruction include Idumagbo Avenue, Ojo Giwa, Oroyinyin, Moshalasi, Okoya, and Iga-Iduganran Streets, along with the completion of Adeniji Adele Road.
Daramola assured residents that their concerns had been noted, adding that the government remained responsive under the THEMES Plus Agenda. He also acknowledged requests for a recreational centre, saying discussions were underway.
Gbolahan Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), announced that demolitions of illegal structures would commence soon, urging affected residents to voluntarily remove extensions encroaching on the right of way.
Meanwhile, Olajide Babajide, Special Adviser on E-GIS and Urban Development, stressed the importance of community cooperation, while Lateef Somide, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, highlighted the economic and social benefits of the project.
Similarly, Mahmood Adegbite, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services, urged residents to support drainage improvement efforts, avoid illegal construction, and properly manage waste disposal.
The meeting was attended by community leaders, residents, transport unions, and White Cap Chiefs.
