The House of Representatives has earmarked ₦6 billion in the 2025 national budget for the reconstruction of the dilapidated Gbaji-Apa-Owode road, a crucial trade corridor linking Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
Sesi Whingan, the Badagry Federal Constituency representative, confirmed the funding, noting that the 30.6 km federal road had suffered years of neglect due to inadequate budgetary provisions. Previous allocations reportedly peaked at just ₦200 million, limiting progress.
“With this new funding, reconstruction efforts will accelerate, bringing much-needed relief to residents, traders, and motorists,” Whingan stated.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), he emphasised that beyond securing funds, he had also advocated for a modern redesign of the road to meet contemporary infrastructure standards.
The ₦6 billion allocation has been welcomed by constituents who have long called for government intervention. Whingan pledged to oversee the project’s execution to ensure quality implementation and keep the public updated on progress.
