The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched the 2024 Digital Nigeria Innovation Challenge, targeting Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges through technology and innovation. According to a statement released by Hadiza Umar, NITDA’s Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, the competition, titled “Mapping Nigeria’s Future – Infrastructure for Development,” began on September 11 and will run until October 23, 2024.
The competition, which will culminate at the 2024 Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition from October 22 to 24, is designed to empower Nigerian innovators. “It’s more than just a competition, it’s an opportunity to leverage technology and creative problem-solving to tackle the pressing infrastructure challenges facing the nation,” Umar said.
She further highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to drive economic growth and foster job creation. Participants will work in teams, using digital tools to map critical infrastructure like hospitals, schools, and utilities across the country, providing valuable insights for sustainable development.
The challenge will unfold in three stages, with competitors from all 36 states and the FCT battling at state, regional, and national levels. The six regional winners will receive ₦1 million each, while the national champion will take home the grand prize of ₦5 million.
NITDA continues to drive Nigeria’s digital future by fostering tech talent and creating opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship.
