The Lagos State Government has introduced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the annual Lagos Women Run, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9. The aim is to facilitate smooth movement for motorists during the event, which will see partial road closures along the race route.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday. He explained that the race route, starting from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and covering areas like Water Board, Outer Marina, Bonny Camp Bridge, Ahmadu Bello Way, and Awolowo Road, will be closed off in sections.
To reduce traffic impact, alternative routes have been mapped out. Motorists traveling to the Third Mainland Bridge from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue are advised to use Bonny Camp and connect through the Onikan Underpass via Marina Exit to reach their destinations. Those heading to Ikoyi Road from Apongbon should follow Odunlami Street, Igbosere Road, and Moloney Street to access Ikoyi.
“There will be minimal impact on traffic flow within these areas,” Osiyemi assured, adding that officials will block key junctions along the route to prevent access by other vehicles during the race. Traffic management personnel, including those from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), will be on duty.
Osiyemi urged motorists to be patient, noting that the partial closures are necessary to manage traffic effectively for the race.
