The Lagos Bus Services Ltd. (LBSL) has recorded a milestone, transporting approximately 60 million passengers in its five years of operation.
Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for bus captains in Lagos on Friday, LBSL Managing Director, Idowu Oguntona, revealed that the company exceeded its 2024 target of 9.6 million passengers by moving over 10 million commuters.
“Since our inception, we’ve transported about 60 million Lagos residents, reflecting the state’s commitment to enhancing traffic management and transportation,” Oguntona said.
He noted the challenges faced in 2024, including the rising cost of diesel and high foreign exchange rates, which significantly impacted daily operations. Despite this, the company remains committed to service excellence and expansion.
Oguntona expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its continuous support, highlighting the addition of five new routes in 2023 and plans to further increase routes this year.
“We are focused on ensuring that no one operates our buses without the necessary technical and psychological training. Our goal is to maintain affordability and accessibility for Lagos residents,” he added.
With Lagos housing an estimated 23 to 26 million people, Oguntona emphasised the need to onboard more passengers and expand service offerings to meet the city’s growing demand.
