The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has partnered with the China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC) for the 137th Canton Fair, set to take place from April 15 to May 4 in Guangzhou, China.
LCCI President Gabriel Idahosa announced the partnership in Lagos, emphasising that the trade fair will create new opportunities for Nigerian businesses by connecting them with Chinese manufacturers and investors.
Francis Meshioye, President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), highlighted the significance of international trade collaborations in driving economic growth and innovation. He noted that while China remains Nigeria’s largest trading partner in Africa, efforts to enhance local manufacturing could help balance trade relations.
Amb. Bolaji Akinremi, Director of Economic Trade at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the fair supports Nigeria’s non-oil export strategy and economic diversification goals. He also revealed that visa processes for Nigerian attendees had been simplified to encourage participation.
CFTC Operations Director Xu Jiansheng praised Nigerian businesses for their consistent presence at the Canton Fair, noting that Nigeria leads Africa in buyer attendance. The fair, known as the world’s largest trade exhibition, will feature over 30,000 exhibitors across three phases, showcasing advanced manufacturing, home furnishings, and smart technology.
