The Lagos State Government has suspended the enforcement of its e-call-up system for trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, announced the suspension on Tuesday, citing the need for further engagement with transport unions. The enforcement, initially set to begin on March 1, was put on hold following a meeting between ministry officials and leaders of unions, including the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.
Musa stated that the unions requested the delay to allow their members more time to comply with the new system, assuring the government that parking regulations would be observed during this period. He added that enforcement would resume if agreements were violated.
The e-call-up system, designed to manage truck traffic and prevent congestion, is crucial for regulating movement along the corridor, which serves major facilities like the Lekki Deep Seaport, Lekki Free Zone, and Dangote Refinery.
