Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line. The revised fare lowers the cost of a trip between Agbado and Oyingbo from ₦1,500 to ₦1,000.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly constructed Abule-Egba Bus Terminal, a key transport hub designed to enhance connectivity and ease commuting challenges in the state.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the fare reduction aims to encourage greater use of the Red Line and provide relief to commuters amid economic difficulties. The rail service, which began passenger operations in September 2024 with six daily trips, increased its frequency to nine trips per day as of February 10, 2025.
At the event, the governor highlighted the importance of the new terminal in supporting the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, stating that it will serve as a major hub for seamless transport integration across Lagos.
“This terminal reaffirms our commitment to an efficient and accessible transport system. It will strengthen the BRT network, ensuring a smoother transit experience for Lagos residents,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also reiterated his administration’s focus on a multimodal transport system, with plans for future expansion, including an extension to Sango.
The inauguration was attended by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Head of Service Olabode Agoro, and other top government officials.
